Dingbatty
Most of us have at least a few dingbat fonts on our computers, those with windows certainly have Wingdings installed.
I've made this desert island scene using a lower case "e" from the wmtrees1 font for the palm tree, and the same letter for the sun's corona using the WhirligigOne Regular font. I used the Alien Skin Xenofex 2 Demo - "Crumple" live effect on the sea and the sand.
I achieved the multi coloured effect on the tree by converting it to editable shapes, and ungrouping a few times then breaking the shapes apart. Doing this also gives a solid tree shape, which I used for the shadow.
No rules, use as many dingbats or other fonts as you like and any tools in the Xara toolbox. Create anything you want.
A great source of free dingbats available for download here:http://www.fontgarden.com/dingbats.php

Bob.

"...But where is the hula hula girl?"
In response to your question Norman, the best I could come up with
using a Dingbat was this from TattooParlour.ttf lower case "a".

Re: Dingbatty
It took me a while to figure out how to fill a dingbat with a colour,
and I thought you might like to see how it was done.

Re: Dingbatty
Very nice use of dingbat fonts Bob.
A variation of your method to fill a dingbat font.

Re: Dingbatty
That's cool Bob. There's a built in font creator and editor hidden in Windows if anyone wanted to make up their own wingdings or font letters. It's been a while since I used it but it works OK for individual letters or wingdings if you're stuck for one.

Re: Dingbatty
For people curious about the Windows 'Private Charactor Editor' that Gray alludes to, go to the RUN box and type: eudcedit
