Can broken shapes be filled in with color?
Hi,
I love xara but i have one issue i can't figure out and that is can i fill a shape that path is not completely closed with fill for example there are times when i don't want all edges of a design to be outline. Is there a way to do it.
Here is an example take a look at the girl's nose. Obviously the top of the nose (shown by the arrow) i don't want an outline there so it blends into the face. I also do a bit of beveling of the nose so it stands up 3d like. So again is there a way to "not" have all edges of a shape closed and still fill it in? What i did here was cover the top with a circle the same color as the skin but i would like to not have to do that if possible.

Re: Can broken shapes be filled in with color?
How about closing the shape, duplicating the shape, then breaking the shape and deleting the uneeded parts of the line...
See attached .xar It has 3 shape, a rectangle, an elipse and a line. the line it just a clone of the ellipse with a couple points deleted.
Re: Can broken shapes be filled in with color?
Hi Printchic,
the following technique works too:
- Create the line for the nose
- Clone the line (CTRL+K)
- Change the cloned line into a shape by closing it.
- Fill the new shape with a colour.
- Remove the outline from the new shape and move it to the background.
- There are two objects at the end: the outline and the fill.
Another (not documented feature) is the following way:
- Create the line for the nose
- Clone the line (CTRL+K)
- Change the cloned line into a shape by closing it.
- Fill the new shape with a colour.
- Select both objects (the line and the new shape).
- Choose Menu Arrange->Join Shapes (CTRL+J).
- Choose Menu Arrange->Break Shapes.
- There are two objects at the end: a normal shape in the background (which you can delete) and a line with a fill (the filled broken shape).

Remi
