Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
Hi ther all. Ive been working on a new revolving avatar. I made this using Photshop and used Animationshop to make it revolve. Thing is, ive just got Xara 3D 6.0 and Xtreme. So i guess you know whats coming..... :) !!!!!
I have my still picture in myphotos as a Png, I take it that i need to some how make a shape using my picture in Xtreme. export the shape back to Xara 3D then my Png picture onto the top of that. You see, i want it to have some depth to it so it doesnt appear flat!
Am I along the right tracks here or am I way off the trail?

Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
OK thanks for the reply EGG. Im going to have a play about with that and see what i can come up with. It is nice at last to see my picture with some depth Yeeehaaaaa thanks for that!
Here is a e.g of a Avatar that most of the clans have on the game forum. See how clear and smooth its is. I hope i can achieve this with Xara?

Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
OK. So i think ive sussed out how to make a shape. Looking at the video, i can just paste my shape into Xara 3D. For what ever reason i could not do that so i had to import it. Seems to work the same. Here is the animation. I tried to paste my picture on top of that but it wont do it...mmmmm..what am i doing wrong??? I made the shape 100% off my picture so i presume it would go right on the top!!!!

Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
You cannot paste a bitmap texture to my knowledge. You have to save the image and select it as you would any file you are importing.
Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
Not having much luck with this!

I can import this picture on Xara3D from the Texture options/Load texture onto one of the preset Text shapes, like on the X3D shape. But i cant on my own shape that i made in Xtreme,
I have made my own shape as you can see below. I did this by opening my Picture (Png) above in Xara Xtreme and traced round my picture using the Shape Editor Tool. I then saved this as a Xara document. According to the video on the link above i should be able to simply paste my shape in Xara 3D but i can only import it?

All i want to do is open my shape in Xara 3D and place my picture over the top and end up with spinning logo like this clan member i seen below,

Many thanks for your help above ;)
Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
Save your bitmap as anything you like. It does not have to be PNG, it can be BMP or JPG or GIF. Then Open your X3D file and select the 'Texture' tool bar. Select 'Text' and click the checkbox for 'texture'. Select the bitmap you just saved from your hard drive and, boing boing, upsadaisy, Bob's your uncle, then all you have to is position and resize it so it fits the 3D shape like a glove.
I await the completed Avatar. Anything less than complete success will not be tolerated!
Re: Novice Here: Applying shapes and textures.
Nice one Big Frank. I think there must be a problem with my shape. I saved it as a Xara file in Xtreme. Like i said in my earlyer posts, i should be able to simply paste it into Xara 3D but i can only import it. I did everything you said by opening the Texture options and ticking the text box. I was then presented with my pictures so i tried to open it but i was given the massage below. I have tried to do this on one of Xaras preset shapes and have no trouble. I get the picture onto the shape, Just cant do it on my own shape.
So just to clarify. I cant copy paste my new shape from Xtreme into Xara but can import. Also, can only bring my picture from the Texture options window on one of Xaras preset shapes but not my own....!!!! mmmmm
I will do this if it kills me lol :)
