xara file has error message
Hi, I have a project .xar file that want open and gives this error message. "Failed to read .xar file" Failed to handle record 8184010" I've tried to change the name of the file and even physically change the  extension type for the file. I've also tried importing the file into a another xara file, but nothing has worked so far. I've also thought about taking the file to work and see if it will open up on the program there. Is this file lost?
Re: xara file has error message
Hi Steps,
You will probably get the same error no matter where you open the file. You can try to recover some or all of the file by using the Expandxar.exe program. It is a command line utility provided by the Xara Group Ltd developers. Go to the Xara Xone shareware page (expandxar.exe is freeware). http://www.xaraxone.com/html/shareware.html
Instructions on how to use the Expandxar.exe are on the Xaraxone web page.
Re: xara file has error message
Hi Steps,
Can you post the file to the forum here so we can look at it (before you've recovered it)? If you'd rather keep the file confidential please submit a ticket at http://support.xara.com/ and attach the file there.
Thanks.
Phil

Thanks,
It totally work! Wow that took me back to my programming classes in computer animation school. I made a copy of the file so I'll see if I can upload the original .xar file.
Re: xara file has error message
Hi Steps,
That file loads without problems for me so I'm not sure you've uploaded the original file where you had the problem.

Re: xara file has error message
It doesn't open on my PC .. I get the same "Failed to read .xar file" Failed to handle record 8184010".
(Xtreme Pro 3.0.2.781 CD)
Re: xara file has error message
Opened in XXPro 3.2.2.2228 on Vista Ultimate, no problem.
Re: xara file has error message
opened ok pro 3.2.2.2228 on XP home
Re: xara file has error message
Won't open for me on XXP 3.0.2
Looks like 3.2.2. opens it, so why not download the latest trial version of Xtreme (not Pro if as reported it overwrites current Pro) and see if it too opens it? You can then resave (as new file)?
Worth a try?
