Has anyone else lost the movie pictures in Windows Media Player or InfraView.
I can hear the sound track but have no moving pictures in either of them.
The XaraX1 movie player works fine, but it has no "open file" option, so I can't see any of my other .avi files.
Anyone have any suggestions? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

The Camtasia movie player that we bundle with Xara X is used only for the built-in help movies. It doesn't take over any file types and doesn't, as far as I know, play most other movie file types (it's primarily designed to play TSCC (Camtasia) encoded avi files). So I really doubt that would have stopped or interfered with other movie players.

Thanks for replying Charles.
I have downloaded the free Camtasia player that lets you open files.
The offending .avi's get the response of :-
Unable to find suitable codec (vids:divf) to compress the video stream.
You will not be able to view the movie.
A little more meaningful than no comment at all, from WMP or IrfanView.
Looks like I will have to visit a few "techie" sites to solve this one.
(At least I now have a simple compact movie player)

I have not had any problems with any movie player for quite a while. Fought that battle long ago, and xara was not among the combatants... But you know Microslut was....

It sounds like you just need a codec Grafix Smelter.
Not heard of divf though. Divx yeah, but not divf. If that is indeed the name it's indicating.

visit www.k-litecodecpack.com to download a codec pack that includes enough installable codecs to pretty much rid you of the problem of not being able to view your videos.

Wow Ross, what a fantastic link!! I'm downloading the Mega Codek Pack. Man there are as many codecs there to choke a horse, so to speak! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Thanks Ross! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks Ross for the link to the codec pack. I downloaded the "Media Player Classic" and the full codec pack, but the offending .avi was not recognised.
However I have just updated my Adobe Reader which sneaked in the Adobe Photoshop Album 2 starter edition that fired up and ran the movie, http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif so I now have yet another "media player". http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I do have one thing I must warn folks about. Their server much be pretty small. I have a very good download manager and I had to pause and restart it about, no lie, 50 times to get the file to download correctly. It would get going pretty good and then all of a sudden it was crawling at about 1% every 20 minutes. My room mate heard me cussing at the computer that night (sorry Fred! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif ). So downloader, beware!! I downloaded the Mega Pak, which was all of 18Mb's which is usually downloaded in about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes as the most. This was about 4 hours of hell!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif I got the file and I'm not going to send them a poisen pen letter or anything but boy oh boy that was painful!!
For what it's worth the codecs all installed just fine and like GS, I now have one more media player installed. It's the original Windows Media Player before it got all fancied out! I guess some of the codecs use this one just fine!
