It's not designed for that use. People who want ecommerce solutions in their Xara based sites use an iFrame to embed a store cart of one form or another.
You would need to build the e-commerce portion of your site in something like PayPal, amazonassociates or ecwid and then incorporate this into your site.
Most go for ECWID but look at XT-CMS - A CMS that works with Xara - Xara + CMS Demo with blog & shopping cart.
Read the detail on ecommerce here: Google > site:talkgraphics.com/ ecommerce.

It depends on how many products that you want to sell for a few say less than 30 it should work fine with PayPal buttons, I have an example here;

Thanks for the replies! What about Abantecart? Would it be possible to embed code from that?
http://docs.abantecart.com/pages/emb...Embed-Products shows how to embed AbanteCart into a web page.
For Xara websites, such embedding would be into a page Placeholder, possibly splitting code into scripts and styling in the header and html in the body.
Not as straightforward as you might think,

Shame - I have a few pages started and very happy with them: back to redirect to sub domain then! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
