Hi Everyone, when I was using my Acorn computer years ago I used to be able to produce a waving flag from any bitmap. Is there any way that this can be acheived in Xara as the program I used to use is not windows compatible.
You can see examples of what I mean Here:-Flags
Thanks for any advicehttp://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Xara does not handle bitmap fills very well, thus means you can only use perspective envelope to transform it, but you cannot use disort mould as this will not disort the bitmap.
Shortly, if you mean you want to create a flag-like effect (like Illustrators/CorelDraws mesgh) tool... it's pretty hard for Xara. There are tricks to complete the task... I hope I will find the time to create a tutorial http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hi Richie,
I don't know of a way to do it using a bitmap, or a bitmap fill. By creating a vector of the flag you can use the Mould Tool to modify it to make the frames for an animation.

Here's a very quick and simple example of an animation.

I think if you take a vector of the flag and distort it with the mold tool like Bill Did , then broght the vector into flash and used that to make a smoth animated gif of the waving flag. A fluttering flag, that folds back upon itself would be very hard in any program.
A fluttering flag would be easist to video it and capture the file, then cut each individual frame. A real pain in the tookas... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

There used to be a screensaver that created a really awesome waving flag. You could use any of the supplied flag art or create your own flag which was even more cool.
I'm not sure what happened to my copy but I seem to remember some problems with my new OS.

Perhaps Custom Flag3D is the flag screensaver you were talking about: http://www.improbablesoftware.com/flag3d/index.htm. It looks like ther's an older free version available at http://www.improbable.ukgateway.net/flag3d/flag3d.htm.

Perhaps you could try a RISC OS emulator to run your old program. Three of them are Red Squirrel (http://www.redsquirrel.fsnet.co.uk/redsquirrel.html), VirtulAcorn (http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk/index2.htm), and Archie http://www.planetriscos.co.uk/cgi-bi...dir=/Emulation.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. It seems that there is no easy answer to this one, although I must admit I had not thought of using an emulator.
It's quite funny really when I think about it...I used to have a PC emulator on the acornhttp://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
