I've been playing with a CD Cover of C4d v5.
I'm trying to draw a bolt - but just can't figure out what to do.
I've created a multi-turn helix and a triangle.
I've them path extruded the triangle along the helix, but it does not rotate the triangle as it travels down the path.
Is there a way to do this?

I don't use C4D, but I have created threads quite successfully in the past using other modeling programs.
To do this, I create four profiles, as you can see in my posted image, put the straight sides bac-to-back and then skin them, in sequence. Note that the bumps that make up the thread (or threads, whatever!) progress upward along the vertical, and they diminish in bump height, while a new bump starts at the vertical bottom.
It's a kludge, for sure, but it works for me.
My Best,
Gare

Geez, I've almost forgotten how to do this stuff in C4D 5. However, I remember that the z axis of the triangle must point into the direction of the x or z axis of the helix - not to the y axis, otherwise the triangle will swivel around the path of the helix. And you need to make the triangle a bit larger than the distance between the coils, otherwise you will end up with ugly gaps.
oooops, I should mention that the new C4D doesn't create a perfect helix...<sigh>

In addition, another technique, achieved by twisting

I'll try and report back.
This copy of C4D v5 has been sitting around for a year.
I'm more used to Corel 3D (Corel Draw v7 set). I've been soing a serious project for a customer, but I'm tired of the bugs in the software.
I was about to get the latest cover disc - TrueSpace v3 as an alternative to Corel, when I remembered I has C4D.
I see more posts on TrueSpace - does this imply that TrueSpace is better than C4D?
Given I'm talking about older versions TS3 and C4Dv5 - what's best, from those that have tried both.

PS These packages are a lot of money so I can't aford them all, but for the record I did buy Corel7 when it was just out http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Could you give me a bit more help with the settings?
My attepmts just don't seem to look like yours?

Here is what I'm playing with - I'll be happy to get a thread with gaps :-) for starters.

The problem is (not that I think you would notice) is that it's not a thread - just a ribbed shape extruded.

Waas the twist done in C4D? If so could you point me in the right diretion?
The manual seems to say something about twist under the timeline.
