Website will no longer upload intact - Xara WD6
Hello,
We have used Xara WebDesigner 6 for over a year. Yesterday after adding two new products (product pages with graphics) to the website, the whole site is a disaster. Most graphics and links are missing; some graphics are partially visible; code appears in places. The site looks fine locally but not on the web.
We contacted our ISP and they claim it has nothing to do with them.
We tried removing all the png and html and re-uploading but that didn't help.
We have temporarily put up a notice about the problems and even that page doesn't look normal -- it too displays partial graphics and is missing some graphics.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Re: Website will no longer upload intact - Xara WD6
This may be a browser cache problem.
Press F5 or Ctrl F5 to force a page reload and let us know if this helps.
When you republish, sometimes Xara renumbers the images and changes the HTML document. But often the browser and/or the ISP cache pages to make them load faster. But if the HTML document is told to load 15.png at 300px x 500px and now finds an image 15.png that is 200px x 700px, the image will display distorted.
Refreshing the page can often restore the page to how it is supposed to display.

Also, if you are using WD MX, make sure your Publish setting is set for Fast Publish (see attached).
When you export with the Fast Publish option, WD creates an file that is used in future publishes to deteme what is new and what is old content. And this will also keep the image number/names the same.

Hello. We had already tried that, plus we have tried to view the site on several different computers. The problems are visible on all computers, using different browsers, and after refreshing.
Thanks.

.
We always use the Fast Publish setting for updating the site. After using it yesterday, the problems started.
Thanks (also for the graphic).
If you have any other ideas, please post.

Do you have Internet Explorer 11 by any chance? If you do the roll it back to 10. If the problem persists then use an FTP program like Filezilla to upload your site. You may have to remove the old files first.

We don't have IE 11. We use a variety of brower versions, IE 9, IE 10 & Safari.
So you suspect it's an FTP problem. We don't normally use an FTP program, and our upload speed is relatively slow so perhaps we should try Filezilla. I'm not the one who uses Xara, so this next question may sound elementary. Is there somewhere in Xara WD6 where we would select Firezilla at the FTP? If so, can someone post a jpg of the page/area in question. Thanks.

Filezilla is a freeware FTP program https://filezilla-project.org/ Publish your site to a folder on your desktop, connect to your website with Filezilla then drag and drop your content from the desktop into your server.

We will try that and let you know what happens. Many thanks.

Since there have been a spate of FTP related issues, I have asked Xara to monitor this forum and advise. Because I am a designer and not a programmer and a lot of these problems are just as much a mystery to me.
