Webstyle, Java and Vista Problems
I have just started a new 17" HP Pavillion with Vista Home Premium. I loaded Webstyle 4 and Menumaker 1.1 as well as Dreamweaver 8. When I hit Insert in the menu bar and then Launch for Webstyle4 or Menumaker,I now get the dialog box "The requested operation requires elevation." In the upper left corner of the box is Ws4Fp or Ws3Fp" Interface. I have made sure I am running as administrator. What the heck is this??? I have tried to figure it out and gave up. Found out about this forum and registered.
I also get javascript errors when DW8 loads.
Can anyone help me with this? I never had any problems with XARA and Windows XP.
Thanks.
Paula

Re: Webstyle, Java and Vista Problems
Hello Paula,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
Windows Vista is different than previous versions of Windows. Logging in using an Administrator account does not automatically run applications with Administrator rights. That is why you are getting the message "The requested operation requires elevation."
Try right clicking the program Icon for Dreamweaver and select "Run as Administrator" from the popup menu. If you still see that message when you try to Insert a Webstyle menu you will probably need to set the program properties for Dreamweaver and Webstyle to always run with Administrator rights.
Right click the program Icon and select Properties from the popup menu and select the Compatibility tab at the top of the new popup.
Check the Run this program as an administrator in the Priviledge Level section.
Re: Webstyle, Java and Vista Problems
Thanks. I did this and restarted DW8 and it is fine now. In fact, I am going to do this for other programs or just disable the UAC control since I am the only one using my laptop.
I am still getting some annoying javascript errors at the beginning of DW8: something about inspecting XMMDWExPiLocked.htm and at line 51 of file:C:\Program Files\..\..Dreamweaver8..Configuration\Inspectors\ _picommon.js":
TypeError: parent Obj has no properties
This one even occurred when I was on XP.
Can you advise?
Re: Webstyle, Java and Vista Problems
Hi Paula,
Glad you have had some success with dreamweaver.
I don't use dreamweaver or frontpage so I do not have any experience with the Webstyle plugins for those programs.
From the error message line 51 of the _picommon.js file references an object created earlier in the javascript and is attempting to set a property of the object. The problem is due to the object not having the property that line of code is trying to set.
If you do not have experience in troubleshooting javascript, you could zip that file and attach it to a post in this thread. As my day job permits I can try to find the cause of the error.
