i thought this might interest a few, i am currently developing a node based image editing software for Linux, Mac OSX and Windows (please note: Mac OSX not yet available).<br />
<br />
Node based means, it works with small operations connected together and at any time you can go back and change things you did once, or start alternative editing branches from an older (or current) image in the editing process.<br />
<br />

Just up load your photo roughly mark the bit that you want to keep then mark the background that you want to lose and download.  I tried it with a complex pic in seconds and I was surprised how good it was.  I could have spent time on the manual bit messed around with brush size and got the picture that I would have download but I was in a rush.
