It happened to me recently. A few days ago I accidentally set magnetic snap radii (MSR) for line (Options -> Mouse) to 0. Today I needed guides for some aligning, so pulled one from the vertical ruler and dropped it somewhere. I wanted to adjust it but I could not grab it with the mouse! When I restored MSR for line, I was able to move the guideline.

I tried grabbing other objects with MSR set to 0, and it works just fine, even when these objects are moved to the Guides layer. So it's not the Guides layer that is misbehaving, but the "native" guidelines.

Bitmap Fill

<img src="http://www.talkgraphics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=96052&d=1368206273&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

When editing a bitmap fill (size, rotation, position, etc.), the resulting
changes are currently observed only inside the filled object. We often
reposition the fill in order to find the area of the bitmap where the texture
works best. This is now a hit-or-miss operation requiring the bitmap
to be moved about in random fashion since it cannot be seen in its entirety.

I suggest that during the editing phase of a fill, display the bitmap fill in its
entirety. During editing, the portion of the bitmap outside the filled object is
displayed with transparency as shown in illustration above. Seeing the entire
bitmap would help determine exactly how an edit is affecting the fill and allow
the user to move the most desirable part of the texture onto the object with certainty.

This is a feature used by other software and makes editing and positioning texture
on objects very fast and efficient.

A lonely owl hoots
There's barely a sound,
As Miss Artyboots
Sets out on her rounds.

Her little heart flutters
As she flits site to site;
The sighing and mutters
Break the silence of night.

First to the Facebook!
Is there a clue?
Take a good look
In case something is new!

Nothing to see...
Her spirit feels low.
Things offered for free
Barely easing the blow.

What about Tweets?
Just check before bed...
The chatter is sweet...
What she craves is unsaid.

She saves best 'til last
Not daring to peep
She clicks much too fast
Producing a beep!

Find the news pages -
Quick, just in case!
But just as in ages
Hurt shows on her face.

Oh where's her new Xara,
Her beloved DP?
Tears of mascara
Flow into her tea.

The Night Before Christmas
Has nothing on this!
Declares our poor lass
With a bit of a hiss.

This is her life
Before any release
On the edge of a knife
While Xara's a tease!

Please end her pain
With the program she craves
What do you gain
If she goes to her grave?

She really can't wait
She's at the end of her tether
The release can't be late
Come - knock her down with a feather!

Dear Xara, perhaps,
You'll read this and care.
You seem decent chaps
IS THERE ANYONE THERE?

She cares not for gifts
No present can please
What gives her a lift
Is a Xara release!

:)

Though I suspect it would take an amount of effort to implement the first go 'round, it would open XDP to extending its built-in capabilities.
I made a video to explain what I do and why. If there is a better way of doing this using Xara exclusively, please let me know.

There needs to be an improvement to the brush stroke system. Currently you can have a head/tail for arrows, but you can only repeat shapes.

Many times I have needed to create things that were repetitive, but not exactly repetitive. Like tentacles on an octopus.

I want to be able to stretch a vector object along a path. I want to also be able to stretch a bitmap along a path, with controls for thickness. I want to be able to apply different bitmaps or vectors to strokes after I have made them.

This feature alone could make people switch to Design Pro.

As it stands, I have to use Illustrator and Expression to make palm frawns like this in order to get them into Xara.

The mould tool is a poor substitute to achieve this.

Microsoft has abandoned development on Expression. I would love to see these features in Xara. This would dramatically change and improve my workflow.

I was explaining Designer Pro to someone and I noticed this annoying issue.

I sometimes have trouble adjusting objects because of how clumsy it is to grab an object. Sometimes I accidentally extrude when I mean to rotate and vice versa.

Can we get some controls like rotational controls on a 3D program that are either ellipses that orbit the object or a virtual box that appears in the corner to control the rotation?

Sometimes I want to lock down the thickness of the extrusion but always end up screwing it up.

Can we get a better interface or have all the controls appear on the toolbar at the same time so that we can choose which value we want to change rather than getting lucky when manipulating the object itself?

EDIT: This is what I think the Extrusion ToolBar should look like.
