Hi everybody,

long time no see ;-)

I've been moving recently and shortly after that my computer crashed and died.
I just got a new one, but the Xara CD is hidden somewhere in the depths of the yet-to-unpack boxes.

So I tried logging in at the Xara Website and from what I remember I could download every purchased program from there.

All it gives me now i a list of products I bought and registered, along with the respective serial numbers.

Is there any way to download older versions from somewhere and register them with my existing serial numbers?

I am still using Xara Xtreme Pro 4 which I really need on a daily basis and also Xara 3d 5 and Xara ScreenMaker 3D which are not that important but I still like to have them back.

Also, my new PC ist now with Win7 64 Bit, I hope this version of Xtrme will still run on it?

thanks for any help and excuse me for being slightly off topic ...

Cheers

Wolfgang

Using an older Xara: 4.0.1.5601 I decided to make a quick grid by duplicating and moving line segments around.

Regardless of the settings I chose, it seems that I could not get consistent behavior, or at least understand what the rule was.

When snapping to the grid is enabled (but not snapping to other objects):

If I move a horizontal line in one direction, it would "land" to the side of what the gridline indicated.

If I move that line *past* that vertical position and then reversed direction, it would land to the other side of the gridline.

It's as if there is a setting somewhere for snapping the leading or trailing edge of a line segment (which of course is in reality had its path widened to a rectangle) depending upon motion.

I can't seem to see anywhere in the documentation where it defines this behavior.

What I did was use an Alacatel OT-903 cellphone's built in camera and a free app from Google Playstore called Thermal Vision with two different colour sets for each version of the background (its actually a canal near Deansgate Locks in Manchester City Centre). I imported the original into XPGD7 and with the tranasparency tool I put part of a different version over the oriiginal.

I might have gotten bum information: I probably should have purchased Xara Photo and Graphic Designer MX 2013 but instead I bought Web Designer 9 Premium (someone told me all of the graphics stuff is included in the web versions)

that said... I need to make rounded corners of images, from what I've been able to garner: a PNG can have rounded corners, a JPEG can not
the work around is said to be to add a border to the rectangular jpeg, then round the edges of said border, then color the border the same as the web background (effectively creating round corners of an object that really has 90° right angles)

So... I load up my rectangular image... then..
what are the steps to create a border (one that will permit me to do as described above)?

The youtube tutorials I've been able to find thus far, seem to be for older versions of Xara software and/ or they include some kind of ClipView tool that apparently the Web Designer does not include

thanks in advance

Hello and please apologize for the n00b comment - I am just now researching if Xara might be a good replacement for Adobe Illustrator (now that Adobe has decided to up my annual tax from $800 to over $1500 with their new cloud-based-only offerings)... I have several people who use Photoshop and Illustrator.

Here are some specific functions that I am unsure if Xara can do, they are absolutely critical for some of the things we do - does Xara have versions of these?

Unite:
Often we need to take an object and combine it with another object to make more complex objects (which then share the same edge/line that can be adjusted). Adobe calls it "Unite"

Minus Front:
But, harder is that we often need to cut away from objects. So say a square on a lower layer we want to carve out a section using another object as the map. Adobe calls it "Minus Front". For example, often we will set an object to a 20% opacity then hand draw another object and minus-front it on the other object to have artwork blend with other artwork or photos.
